The Orchard Golf And Country Club Installs Solar Energy In The Philippines

The Orchard Golf and Country Club in the Philippines is setting an example for other businesses by investing in renewable energy. With a 99.9 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar installation that has been operating since early 2022, the golf club has already generated more than 125,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy as of January 2023. This has resulted in savings of around PHP785,000 for the exclusive club, which has been using state-of-the-art microinverter technology from Enphase.

In addition to financial benefits, the solar facility has helped The Orchard reduce its carbon footprint by 89 tonnes, which is equivalent to planting 4,100 trees or reducing around 355,000 km in vehicle travel per year. The club has always been known for its sustainability efforts, and its investment in renewable energy further strengthens its commitment to protecting the environment.

As the Philippine government pushes for small and large-scale businesses to shift to renewable energy, The Orchard Golf and Country Club is setting an example for others to follow. The savings from having a solar installation can be invested back to fund core businesses, according to Patrick Henry T. Panlilio, Chief Operating Officer of Spectrum.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report in 2021 that indicated that solar and wind energy and batteries have shown persistent cost reductions of up to 85% since 2010. With more and more businesses like The Orchard making the switch to renewable energy, it is hoped that the Philippines can continue to reduce its carbon footprint and help fight climate change.
